At a recent job interview, I was asked what was the most challenging thing I’d ever done, what recognition I received for it, and what did I learn about myself from it? I’m sure the recruiter wanted me to describe a professional work experience, but I just couldn’t help myself. I answered, “Motherhood.” It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done but also the most challenging thing I’ve ever done because there’s no crash course covering everything you need to know, no how-to guide that deciphers every single thing your child does. and no flashing light that tells you if you’re doing something right or wrong. And while I’m not perfect and have never been given any official trophies or awards, the smiles on my kids faces are recognition enough for me. As for what I learned about myself, I learned that, yes, I can do 20 different things all at the same time. I’ve learned that I have a greater capacity to love then I ever knew possible. I’ve learned that just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, things change and then you’re back to square one.
I decided to create Mommy Melting Pot because there are all different kinds of moms with our own different ways of doing things. We might come from different backgrounds, have different philosophies, live in different countries, be college graduates or have barely made it out of high school, but we are all bonded into that unique club called motherhood. A group that once you’re a part of, you’ll never be excluded from. You are a mother for life, from the first moment you conceive your child until the day you leave this earth. And I have a strong belief that it doesn’t just end there. We’re mothers, and as such, we are very resourceful. We’ll still figure out some way to take care of our children from wherever we are in the beyond.
This blog is my attempt to chronicle my trials and tribulations through motherhood, with all its ups and downs. And let’s face it, I’ve got kids, which means I don’t get out that much anymore, so I thought this would be a nice way to connect with other moms online.
