Well, we did it. We made it through the first day of school. Felicity moved to the upper level of the building with the “big kids”, and Chase moved into the big building. He’s not in the separate area for kindergartners anymore. When he was in Kindergarten, we’d walk him straight to his classroom, but that was mostly because he class had already walked to the classroom before we arrived. Yeah, you guessed it, we’re not the most punctual family around. You know that family you always see doing a mad sprint to get inside the building because the bell’s going to ring any second? That’s us. I’ve often referred to it as my morning jog.
This time, though, Chase had to stand in line by himself, along with a big mass of kids. Poor thing, he looked like a lost little lamb standing there with his eyes wide open. I felt horrible leaving him there, but I had to let him go. I watched him walk into the “big kids” building with a woman who I assumed was his new teacher leading the line.
And speaking of teachers, the good news is that Felicity and Chase both like their teachers, which is good, considering both teachers are new and and don’t know anything about them. Felicity was glad because she wanted the new teacher (which is a roundabout way of saying she wanted whoever wasn’t the other fifth grade teacher).
So, even though summer’s around for about another month, for us at least, it’s officially over. But the kids were excited to go back, and to be honest with you, so was Del. He complains that they get bored at home. But then again, I’m the one who usually has to do the homework with them. Del says it’s a way for me to spend time with them. Yep, uh huh. Because there’s nothing like fractions and vocabulary words to bond a family.
