For quite awhile now, Del and I have wanted to take the kids on a family trip, but our financial situation prevented us from doing so. Since last summer, we’ve been saving up what little we could with a trip to San Diego in mind. San Diego is close enough to drive to, which would save us an immense amount of money since we wouldn’t have to pay airfare. With gas at close to $4/gallon, though, it’s still gonna be a good amount spent on gas. It will just be a weekend trip, but I was able to get Friday off at work, so we’ll get a nice early start (depending on your definition of early, that is).
Chase and Nick don’t really notice we don’t travel, but Felicity is starting to get to the age where she does. Of course, it doesn’t help that she hears other kids in her class talk about their family trips. The closest we’ve come to one over the past few years is a visit to Disneyland. Felicity is probably the most excited of anyone that we are going. We will be hitting up the usual staples such as Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Felicity wants to spend a day at the beach, too. We were able to get a deal on Sea World tickets through AAA, which saved us a lot of money — adults pay the kid’s price and kids get in free. I can also get a discount on the San Diego Zoo tickets at work. And the beach is free, so you can’t beat that.
What I’m looking most forward to is just the whole family experience. Going on an adventure together. The last time we traveled with the kids was to DC when Felicity was 6 and Chase was 2. We went there for a specific event, though, so it wasn’t all sight seeing. And Felicity was so young that the places we did visit didn’t really have much significance to her, so she doesn’t really remember that much. This time it will be all fun and games (I hope!). I just feel like we’re finally providing them with a memory they will have all their lives, at least for Felicity and Chase. I’d be surprised if Nick remembered it, but I’m pretty sure he’ll give us some memories from the trip!
