Mommy Melting Pot on Facebook

When It Rains, It Pours

Being a temp worker is an unstable occupation.  You work an assignment, get to know the people around you, then leave without knowing if or when you’ll see them again.  You leave not knowing if or when you’ll work again.  If you’re lucky, you’ll have another assignment already lined up or will get one within a week or two of your last one.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed my week and a half off, spending time with the kids, taking them to and picking them up from school, going on Chase’s class field trip, and doing “mom” things, but simply being a mom doesn’t pay the bills.  Del’s been working on several work projects, but considering I’ve got a stronger skill set than he does for the workplace, it’s basically up to me to find a job.  Not an easy task these days.

Toward the end of last year, it seemed like I couldn’t get an interview no matter what.  Since I got my first temp assignment this year, though, it’s been fairly steady.  I’ve had a total of three weeks off, and only two of them have been consecutive.  This past week, I have been on interviews for three different jobs, all at highly desireable companies.  And today I was offered not one, not two, but three jobs.  Yes, all three!  What are the odds of that happening?!

So now I’ve got to weigh some decisions to make.  Which job will make me happiest?  Which has the better salary?  Because if I’m going to be doing something that takes me away from spending time with my family, it has to be something that I enjoy and that pays a good salary.  One job is more administrative, and the other two are more analytical.  I’m also looking at growth opportunity.

Looks like Operation Clean Up the finances is about to get a big boost, but I’m afraid of what that means for Operation Clean Up the house!
