Today is the second to the last day of 2009. A new year begins the day after tomorrow. Each year, I wonder how that year will differ from the last. Other than the kids being a year older and me being a year younger. This time around, I’m starting the year with a change. Last week I was offered a full-time job, and given our current economic status, I decided to take the plunge and accept. So after 8 years of working as an independent contractor, setting my own schedule, and basically being my own boss, I am back to the old 9-5 grind, waking up at the crack of dawn, and commuting.
I was in training for most of the day yesterday and today was my first day at my new position, which was kind of odd to me. I figured they’d have me start after the new year. I mean, who starts a job on the day before a holiday, on the last day of the year? Doesn’t it just make sense to start a new job at the beginning of the new year instead of at the end of the old year? Maybe it’s just me. It’s going to take some getting used to, especially since I have NO COMPUTER at this job. I haven’t worked at a job where I didn’t use a computer since I started earning more than minimum wage. I’m like — no email??!!! I’m going through email withdrawal!
And there’s no parking at this office, that is, unless I want to pay $7.50/day, and trust me, I’m not getting paid enough to justify $7.50/day. So I’ve been having to park a couple of blocks away from the office. The exercise will do me good, but that just means I have to get there that much earlier. And since I have been waking up earlier, by the time I get home, I am dead tired. So tired that I’d rather be taking a nap than play with the kids when I get home. So tired that I’d rather take a nap than eat dinner. So tired that I’d rather take a nap than type on my bl… zzzzzzzzzzzzz. See what I mean?
So now I’m sitting here, using every ounce of my remaining energy to press the keyboard buttons to type up this post. But I’m losing the battle. Too many buttons to push. Eyelids are g e t t i n g h e a v y.

Nice site – Here’s wishing you and yours a very happy and prosperous new year !
Wishing you and yours a very happy and prosperous new year !
Thanks, Jon. Happy New Year to you, too!
I know it can be very difficult to start working a specific shift after so many years. I wish you a lot of luck on your new job.
Sacrifices always seem to be a part of family life. I hope all works out well for you all.
Thanks. We’re still adjusting but it seems to be getting easier.
