Halloween Festivities

Aaahhh.  Halloween.  That time of year when we celebrate children getting sugar rushes and eating their heart’s content of sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial coloring, and if we’re lucky, nothing that contains any partially hydrogenated oils.  It’s the one time of year where indulgence is permitted because — it’s only once a year.

We started celebrating Halloween since Wednesday, when Chase’s preschool had their Halloween parade.  Felicity’s school hoad their parade on Friday, and then Halloween was the next day.  Felicity decided to forgo her usual Disney princess costume and decided to dress up as Cleopatra instead.  Well, she still kept the royalty theme.  She was nominated for prettiest costume in her class, but didn’t get selected as the winner.  I think she lost out to a vampiress.  Chase’s costume still fit him from last year — it actually fit him better this year — so he was Lightning McQueen from Cars for the 2nd time.  He really got into it this time.  His costume had a button on it, and when you pressed the button, red lights lit up and the costume made a race car sound.  It was the hit at his preschool.  His teacher told me the kids lined up and took turns pressing the button on his costume.

If you’re wondering about Nick’s Halloween costume, let’s just say we had a Winnie the Pooh costume for him, but someone refused to wear it.  He hated the thing.  He cried when I put on the head piece, kept trying to rip off the gloves, and kicked off the feet.  We decided that maybe he wasn’t quite ready for Halloween just yet.  Of course, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t try to help himself to Felicity’s and Chase’s candy.  I’ve already had to pull a few Tootsie Roll wrappers out of his mouth.

So now we are winding down after all the excitement of the past week.  Luckily for me, I don’t have to worry about Felicity and Chase downing all that candy.  Felicity likes to count her candy more than she likes eating it.  And although I know she really is my daughter, she doesn’t like chocolate.  Chase will eat maybe 10% – 15% of his candy.  He’s taken a few licks of a couple lollipops and eaten a couple packs of his favorites, M&Ms.  Once the M&Ms are gone, though, I have a feeling he’ll be done with the candy.  I used to feel bad at first, because I thought they weren’t getting the full enjoyment out of the holiday, but now I’m like, who am I to complain that my kids don’t eat candy?!  I have a feeling that next year, though, when Nick goes trick or treating, I may have a battle on my hands.

Oh what beautiful children you have!!

The kids looks so cute. Sorry Felicity didn’t win the best costume contest.

You really had your hands full.

You’re lucky that Chase & Felicity don’t eat all their candy…good for their teeth!

I bet you will have your hands full next with Nick. Maybe he’ll keep his costume on next year!!

  • Hi Ruth! Thanks for visiting my blog :) I’d like to be able to help you out, but we were planning to keep the Lightning McQueen costume for my son Nick, since he’s in love with Cars, too. I did see one just like it on eBay, though, and according to the description, it was purchased at the same store I bought Chase’s at. I’ll email you the link to the item, in case you want to check it out. I have no affiliation with the seller, just thought I’d help you out.

Good luck, and please come back and visit my blog again!
