O’Neill Children’s Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings Recalled by La Jolla Sport Due to Strangulation Hazard

Name of Product:

Children’s Hooded Fleece Sweatshirts

Units: About 2,300

Distributor: La Jolla Sport USA Inc., of Irvine, Calif.

Hazard: The recalled sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recall involves hooded fleece sweatshirts with style names “Love Goes” (style #39810012) and “Up and Under” (style #39202202). They were sold under the O’Neill brand name in child sizes S – XL. The RN #85773 is printed on the care label in the neck.

Sold at: Ron Jons’ Surf Shop, Dillards and McCaulous stores nationwide from June 2009 through August 2009 for about $65.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard, and return the garment to the place of purchase or to the firm for a full refund.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact La Jolla Sport at (800) 662-7873 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.lajollagroup.com.

  • I'm a mommy too!

Thanks for the recall update. It’s very informative..I also like that you included pictures of the item too.

I’ll stay clear of that one for my grandkids. Thanks again.
