While I was out working today, I got some alarming news from home. I called Del to tell him I was running late with work and probably wouldn’t be home for dinner when he gave me the news: we almost lost a family member today. I immediately started wondering what happened and started worrying the way most mothers do. Was it Nick? Did he climb on top of something and fall down? Did he grab something and hurt himself? What happened?
Then Del told me: someone tried to eat sushi. Eat sushi? Del and I don’t eat sushi, so there isn’t any in the house. Huh, did I hear right? He did say sushi, didn’t he? Then it dawned on me: we keep Chase’s fish bowl, with his goldfish adaptly named Finding Nemo inside, on the dresser next to Chase’s bed. Nick has realized that if he climbs on Chase’s bed, he can reach the things on top of the dresser. We’ve caught him sticking his hand inside Finding Nemo’s fish bowl several times, but have always gotten to him in time before anything ever happened. You can see where I’m going with this, right?
Del told me Nick came to him with a wet shirt. Well, nothing new, because Nick seems to find every drink in this house and spill it on himself. Del must have gone into the boys’ room to get Nick a new shirt when he saw Finding Nemo’s fishbowl on Chase’s bed. Without a lick of water in it. Empty. No fish in sight. His first thought? No…he couldn’t have. Could he? Did the bottomless pit eat the fish? Luckily for Finding Nemo, Del quickly found him on the floor, although he had no idea how long he’d been laying there. He was limp and lifeless when Del found him, and everyone feared the worst, but when Del picked him up, his tail flipped up. Del immediately tossed the fish into the fish bowl we keep Felicity’s gold fish in, and now Finding Nemo is happy and well. Well, that is about as well as you can be for someone who was almost killed by a 2-year-old.

Oh my gosh! Poor little “Finding Nemo”. He was almost a gonner! Thank goodness Nick didn’t eat him!
I’ll bet “Finding Nemo” feels good to be in Felicity’s fish bowl. (I hope Chase is okay with this).
Chase is okay with it, although I don’t think he realizes how close he came to not having a fish. He just thinks Nick was being a troublemaker, and we had to move the fish so Nick doesn’t grab it again.
