We’re officially on day 10 of wearing “big boy’s” underwear and NO pull ups. Chase still isn’t going to the bathroom on his own, but goes whenever we tell him to. So far, he’s only had two small accidents. The big boy’s underwear incentive coupled with talking in the character’s voice really seems to have done the job. He’s had conversations with the “big boy’s” underwear, and the “underwear” encourages him to try to go on the potty each time. (Please don’t have me locked up for talking as a piece of underwear!) It’s been baby steps, though. First he wore the underwear only at night. Then we wanted to see how long he would last one day, and here we are 10 days later. I was nervous the first few times we took him out in public without a pull up, but I’m getting more comfortable about it, but on the other hand, I also try to be more aware of how long he goes between visits to the bathroom. I also made sure his preschool teachers knew he wasn’t wearing pulll ups anymore, either.
In addition to wanting to wear the underwear, he also wants to fill up the empty squares on his poop chart. I did 2 separate charts for him, one for peeing and the other for pooping. Each chart has 100 squares on it. I think the cumulative effect of seeing so many stickers was a lot of reinforcement for him. Everytime he adds a new sticker, he gets so proud and counts how many stickers he’s gotten, and then how many more he still needs. He filled up the pee chart right away and now only asks for stickers on his pooping chart.
I secretly made the decision that the last box of pull ups we purchased him would be the last ones we purchased. We seem to be so close to making that happen.

Congratulations!! Chase is doing a great job.
What a joy getting the kids out of diapers!!
I have two grandchildren that I babysit for still in diapers.
Potting training will be coming in the near future. Good luck to me!
Tell Chase he’s doing a great job!
