The Midas Touch

Last night I had a dream that I’d won money.  A lot of money.  Not enough to live on forever, but enough to pay off our house and get us out of debt, plus a little extra.  The rest of the dream was real bizarre, but the winning money part — that was nice.  It had such an impact on me that I  even told Del about the dream when I woke up.  Needless to say, I was a little disappointed when I woke up and we were still broke!

Later on today, we got a phone call from Felicity’s school telling us we won first prize in the raffle they had.  It was weird, but in a good way!  I would say it was like deja vu, but is it deja vu if you aren’t awake?  Anyway, to the point of this post.

I don’t know how to explain it, but somehow Felicity seems to have acquired the Midas touch.  In her young 8 years, she has won more prizes than I ever have.  Last year, she was the grand prize winner in a Disney Channel contest and won an iPod.  This summer, while we were eating at California Pizza Kitchen, they were giving out cards for their summer promotion.  Most people won 10% off their meal, but Felicity chose the card that gave us two of our dinners for free.  We ended up paying $20 for all five of us to eat.  Last week, she got a CD in the mail — one that no one seems to have ordered for her.  We’re guessing she won another contest that she entered online (she’s big on contests).  And the raffle at her school?  She helped me fill out the stubs for the raffle tickets.  She placed the address labels on the ticket stubs, and I wrote our phone number on them.

So how much did we win?  Not as much as the amount in my dream, but still a nice amount.  Now how to spend it…!
