Product Review: Book Sox

This is my first year using pre-made book covers, so I didn’t really have that much experience with them.  Since I had a Staples Rewards check I had received in the mail for recycling printer cartridges, I decided to stop by Staples to pick up a few.  Felicity wasn’t allowed to use them last year, but since she was allowed to use them this year, I jumped at the opportunity to save a little time.  While I thought they were a little pricey (anywhere from $2.99 to $4.99 depending on size and style), since I was using the Staples Rewards check, I wasn’t paying the full amount anyway, so I though I would give them a try.

My first thought was, “Could it really be this easy?”  My answer would be, “Yes!!!!”  All you have to do is flip the book covers backward and slide the Book Sox on.  Like I said previously, this is my first time using them, so I can’t tell you how long they will last throughout the year.  Book Sox is made from a stretchy fabric material and because of that, I wasn’t sure of the best way to put my child’s name on the book.  I didn’t want to use a Sharpie in case it bled through the fabric and damaged the book.  I also wasn’t sure if the ink would all bleed together, making the letters blend together and be illegible.  I opted to use a label maker and create a label to place on the front.  Two days later, Felicity brought her book home, and the label had fallen off.

I decided to try the less expensive stretchy fabric book covers sold at Target, thinking they would all be the same, but I was really disappointed with them.  They were too loose, and the cover doesn’t feel secure on the book.  I’m afraid my labels won’t be staying on these books, either, because the fabric moves around too much.  The looseness of the fabric makes the book more difficult to grip.

In this comparison, I would definitely say that Book Sox was the better quality product.  It had a better feel, it fit better, and I felt more secure holding the book covered in Book Sox.
