Mommy Melting Pot on Facebook

Birthday Boy

I can barely believe it, but my baby officially turns 2 today.  It’s so true when people tell you time flies by quickly.  I still remember when Felicity and Chase were 2.  Considering that I most likely won’t be having any more children, each of Nick’s birthdays mark the end of an era for me.  It’s the last time I will EVER have a 2-year-old.  I’ll never be able to say I have a 1-year-old again.  Of course, as the kids get older, I get younger, right?  That’s the way it works, doesn’t it?

So what have been some of Nick’s achievements during this past year?  Lots!  He was cruising but not walking at age 1.  Now he climbs on top of beds and tables.  He runs, too.  He’s still not saying any words, but he communicates with his actions and expressions.  He may have understood things we said, but now he has definite reactions  to words such as “outside,” “bath time,” “milk,” and so one.  He has definite likes and dislikes.  He is attune to daily routines, like picking up Chase at preschool.  And a few days ago, he finally let me give him a haircut, without turning around, throwing his head back and forth, or trying to grab the scissors out of my hands.  He recognizes characters and is a big fan of Mickey Mouse.  He plays games now, not only with me, but also with Felicity and Chase.  If I had to choose my favorite area of growth this past year, though, it would be Nick’s ability to display affection.  He’s always loved me, but now he shows it.  He runs up to me and throws his arms around me.  He hugs my leg.  He pulls my face to his and gives me kisses.  I love that warm, fuzzy feeling I get when he smiles at me.

Maybe having a 2-year-old won’t be so bad after all.

Happy birthday to Nick! I actually can’t believe my first baby is 27 weeks in the womb. I imagine I will be just as nostalgic as you when the time comes.

  • I'm a mommy too!

It’s been a long time since my kids were 2 years old. They are all grown and married.

Now I’m going through these younger years with my grandchildren.

I never thought I could love anyone like I love my own children. But guess what? I love my grandkids just the same!!

    Oh how blessed I am!

I hit the submit button before I wished Nick a very Happy Birthday. What a cutie he is!

When you are child I marveled when people told me how fast I had grown. School and summer breaks took FOREVER….now that I am a mom, the saying is so true! Time literally just flies by and it does sadden me when I look at my kids. It almost seems like they grew overnight. So, just cherish all of these times…and especially when they are naughty for when they are older, you can look back and remember their sweet fond memories:-)

Oh, by the way, Happy Birthday Nick! Sorry;-)

  • Thanks for all the birthday wishes! For the most part, Nick had a good birthday, except that he hadn’t had a nap and by the time we finished eating and were ready to bring out his cake, he was so cranky. He started crying when we sang him “Happy Birthday” and had no interest in opening any presents. He did manage to polish off 2 pieces of cake, though!

  • Congratulations on making it to week 27, Kristy! One more week and you’re in the clear. Babies are usually viable starting at 28 weeks — granted, you’ll want the baby to stay inside as long as possible, up to the full 40 weeks, although if s/he is anything like my last 2 boys were, you’ll be having the baby 2 weeks early!

Your baby is growing up. I know sometimes I wish my kids were still infants. But like you said, when they get older the hugs and kisses just melt your heart!
