You know that well-known cereal that all kids love? The one that is so easily recognized by its simple circular design? The one that is made of oats and a perfect finger food for young children? Yes, that cereal — Cheerios? Well, apparently they did something to offend Nick, because he has gone on a self-imposed Cheerios strike. Each attempt to offer him Cheerios is met with a disgusted grunt while he shakes his head, “no”. If I’m lucky, he’ll just push the bowl away. Usually, though, he’ll knock it out of my hands and spill the Cheerios all over the floor, and you can guess how much I love it when he does that.
The kids all go through their phases where they will love one food one day and don’t want to have anything to do with it the next day. The most recent offenders for Felicity and Chase are Goldfish cracker and Cheetos. Felicity pulled the same thing on us, too, when she was younger, with strawberries. My mother-in-law would go on and on about how much Felicity loved the strawberries she gave her at her house, so of course we rushed out and bought some to give her at home. Even though they were from the same place my mother-in-law got hers, do you think the child would open her mouth when we tried to feed them to her? That answer is a big, fat NO!
Any other moms going through the same thing? What is your child refusing to eat?

When my kidswere young they went through their phases with food too. My one daughter loved corn on the cob, but would not eat frozen corn OFF the cob.
I’m going through the same thing with my 2 year old grandson now. He used to eat scrambled eggs but now he wants nothing to do with them. He also used to eat canned ravioli …not any more!
It does get frustrating at times!
Your “mommy tip” is a good idea.
We went through the corn on the cob dilemma with Felicity, too. We only started to get her to eat the corn off the cob in the past year or so.
Chase hasn’t been giving us as much problem with the food as he has with the bowls or plates it is served on. He absolutely detests what used to be his favorite plates. I think he feels they are “little boy’s” dishes and tells me they are for Nick. One time he refused to eat because he said he didn’t like Del’s shirt!
Del had to end up taking off his shirt so Chase would eat dinner.
I’m glad you like the Mommy Tip. I get paranoid if I don’t know how old the food is, and since I started doing this, we’ve really cut down on the amount of leftovers that get wasted. Of course, the kids are also eating more, so there are less leftovers to keep track of.
My kids were the same way…Just when you think you found the food that they like (which you went out and bought tons of) the next few days they want nothing to do with it!!
I thought my kids were the only ones that did that!
