Back To School Sales – Updated

If you haven’t already finished buying all your school supplies, now is the time to do it, before the final sales are over.  If you have a Staples near you, I recommend checking out their flyer.  The one in my area still  has some pretty good deals, including pocket folders for a penny each (limit of 20).  I always buy extras because Felicity usually goes through her supply around the middle of the year.  Target usually has pretty good sales, too.  I was able to buy a set of 3 glue sticks there for $0.99, or about $0.33 each.  Crayola crayons can usually be found for $0.20 to $0.30, depending on where and when you start shopping.  It’s almost impossible to find supplies at these prices come the middle of the school year.

Office Depot is offering some items for free after rebate, plus a slew of 10 cent and 25 cent items.  The sale ends on August 29th, but I think that it’s while supplies last, so if they run out beforehand, that’s it.  With these things, it’s better to go sooner than later.

When checking out the sales, remember that a lot of supplies also make good, inexpensive items you can include in a goody bag for a birthday party.  I stocked up so much on sales last year that I only had to buy a small handful of items this year.  With some good planning, you can get a lot of supplies for a small amount of money.

You can find a school supply list for your child’s grade at the Staples web site.

UPDATED:

I decided to go to Office Depot this morning and see what I would able to get for free (okay, technically not for free, since I had to pay $1.99 sales tax, but close enough).  Here’s what I walked out with:

  • 5 2-pocket portfolios
  • 3 protractors
  • 15 Sharpie markers (3 5-packs)
  • Sharp scientific calculator

All of these items would have normally cost  $28.38 before tax.  The portfolios and protractors were free with no rebate.  The Sharpies and the calculator each have a rebate that requires you to send in your receipt.  Not too shabby if I say so myself.

Now, off to fill out those rebate forms.

Don’t have Staples here but thanks for the info on Office Depot.

  • I'm a mommy too!

I wish I had your blog when my kids were in school. It always was a hard time to come up with the money for my children’s supplies.

Your advice would truly have helped me then!

  • Mommy too, it still is hard to come up with money for the school supplies. That’s why I always look out for whatever deals I can find.

Hope you can get in on some of the deals, Judy.
