Do you ever have those days that just fly by but you feel like you got nothing done? That was today for me. I know I did things. I made breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I got the kids dressed, brushed their teeth, and changed diapers. I washed some dishes. I cleaned in the bathroom. And last but not least, I sorted through some of the clothes in my closet and took out the clothing that is no longer in style or doesn’t fit anymore. Since I lost weight, a lot of things are too big — a “problem” I never thought I’d have! Yet I have no sense of accomplishment today. I try to do a mental checklist each morning of what I want to try and get done that day, but time got away from me today.
It might have to do with the fact that Nick got up a couple hours earlier than normal, which left me bleary-eyed and sluggish for the first half of the day. And a sleepy mommy is a cranky mommy. Sleep also keeps this mommy from snacking too frequently, although I don’t think I did that bad today. Lack of sleep inhibits your body’s release of the hormone leptin, which tells your brain you’re full and no longer need to eat. Less leptin means more eating — not a good thing. I usually try to keep that in my when I feel the need to reach for a snack after getting less sleep than normal. Does that always work? Not all the time, but most of the time. The fact that I keep processed food in the house to a minimum is also key. There are no “bad” foods to reach for — but that’s a whole other conversation. I could go on and on about food and nutrition. Just ask Del — the poor guy gets lectured about a lot of his food and beverage choices. I myself won’t touch anything with any partially hydrogenated ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, or processed sugar (that’s over half the grocery store right there), and whenever possible I choose whole wheat and whole grain breads and pastas. I didn’t realize what a journey I was embarking on when I decided to start eating healthy, but I’m so glad I did. Anyway, I’m getting off topic here.
On a positive note, tomorrow Del’s aunt is taking the kids to a festival out here, so Del and I will actually get some alone time. We’ll be spending it watching an old action figure come to life on the big screen — yes, we’re going to see G.I. Joe. I had no clue they were even making a G.I. Joe movie until Del said he wanted to see it. My mom saw the movie today and said it had a lot of action, which is good, because if it didn’t, she probably would have been bored.

I have days just like you had.
I’d fed my cats, clean their kitty litters, and give three of them their medicine.
Then I’d eat my breakfast and clean up the dishes.
I’d sit down and watch TV then hours later I’d eat lunch and then dinner.
By evening, I felt like the day just passed me by. It was really a nothing day!
Hi, I have those days also, between my kids everyother second of mommy this and that. I end up looking at the clock at its five, time for dinner.
I’ve had a lot of nothing days!
When my husband is able to watch the kids, I just relax and read a book and have a nothing day!
I wish there were more hours in the day. Like you, I too, set aside things to get accomplished for the day while my oldest is in school. Before you know it, it’s noon and then another hour or two fly by and it’s time to pick her up from school again. What did I get done….nothing that I thought would! Getting a load or two of laundry done is as good as it gets in my house sometimes. I just learned to accept and be okay with it:-)
